How wings work
Lift without the misleading reunion story.
Pressure and moving air
Lift is an aerodynamic force. A wing changes the surrounding airflow, and the resulting pressure distribution produces a force on it. NASA explains that Bernoulli’s pressure description and Newton’s momentum description are compatible ways of analysing the same flow.
The story to retire
Air passing over and under a wing does not have to reunite at its trailing edge at the same time. That popular “equal transit” explanation introduces a condition that is not required. It can make a familiar drawing feel convincing while hiding the real flow.
Try a museum question
Find a wing section, model or exhibit label. Ask which way the aircraft moves, which surfaces interact with the air and how the pilot changes the wing’s angle to the flow. Keep a sketch and a question in your notebook rather than inventing a formula from the shape alone.
