Avro Vulcan B2

The delta wing on a monumental scale.

Stylised Avro Vulcan B2 recognition drawing

Original stylised recognition graphic. Not a scale plan or an archival photograph.

The historical setting

The Vulcan B2 entered service on 1 July 1960. It followed the earlier B1 and used a larger delta wing. Its history belongs to the Cold War and the changing role of Britain’s nuclear deterrent.

Look closely

In a silhouette, follow the broad triangle to the tips. In a hangar, walk around the aircraft if the visitor route permits: the same outline looks different from below, from the nose and beside a wingtip.

Why our table is restrained

The RAF Museum’s B2 description gives rounded dimensions of 32 metres in length and 34 metres in span. We preserve that rounding. We leave speed and range unlisted where our chosen record does not supply them, rather than importing figures from another configuration.
