Lockheed SR-71A
A reconnaissance aircraft shaped around extraordinary speed.
Original stylised recognition graphic. Not a scale plan or an archival photograph.
The historical setting
The SR-71 family’s first flight took place in December 1964. In 1976 an SR-71 set a speed record of 2,193.167 mph for its class, according to the National Museum of the USAF. A record run is not the same thing as everyday cruise performance.
Look closely
The long pointed nose, broad blended body, separated engine nacelles and twin fins give the Blackbird a distinctive outline. Our quiz drawing is simplified: use the overall combination rather than expecting a technical plan.
A better record question
Whenever you read “fastest”, ask what category is being measured. Air-breathing aeroplanes, rocket-powered research aircraft and spacecraft are different comparisons. State the class and the date instead of turning a specific record into an unlimited claim.
